Thanksgiving Roundup

We would start off the day with the Macy's Day Parade. Followed by a quick breakfast of cereal. Then we always had a few appetizers to hold us out through the day. Typically deviled eggs, shrimp cocktail, veggies and chips with a couple dips, and cheese, meats and crackers. Appetizers would be set out around 11:00am and last until dinner time, around 5:00pm. After dinner we'd always turn on the TV to Charlie Brown's Thanksgiving and watch that followed by a slice of pie. Pumpkin was always served. But I can remember a couple times having more than one pie. Apple. Pecan. Maybe even a berry pie.

Although I'm not hosting Thanksgiving this year and I don't really have anything posted that can help you prepare your main dish, I do have some simple ideas for appetizers and side dishes.

These are a standard at our house anytime an appetizer is called for. Plus they're great to make the day before.

This chicken salad can also be made a couple days before hand and uses seasonal fruit. It would also be a great way to use up some extra turkey for the day after Turkey Day.

This is another great appetizer that won't clog up your oven and can be assembled ahead of time.

Even though I mentioned I don't have any Thanksgiving style main dishes on the bog, I do have a couple ideas on how you can season your bird.

These potatoes are a must for our family at Thanksgiving.

And this corn would be a bright spot on anyone's holiday table. I do think it tastes best with fresh corn off the cob, but given the time of year it may be more feasible to use frozen corn.

Another veggie that would look great alongside the big bird is carrots!

I like to lighten up our holiday meals with a green salad. So throw together your favorite salad fixings and give these dressings a try.

No meal is complete without rolls or biscuits of some sort!

And to round out your meal try this easy danish, but feel free to change it up to make it seasonal. Maybe some pureed pumpkin with pumpkin pie spice? Or how about apple butter?
