Labor Day Roundup

Holy moly! Where the heck did summer go? Seems like I blinked and the weather got cooler and kids everywhere have started school!! Well, most places but here. School doesn't start until Tuesday. Which means that this holiday weekend is the last big hoorah for the summer. Grilling, light summer salads, corn on the cob, lots of laughing and playing, icy cold beverages, hanging out with friends and family, fire pits with s'mores, and maybe if you're lucky enough a little bit of beach time. You know, nothing tropical (although I wouldn't complain), something more like this:

I long to be there this weekend. Not at this precise spot, but somewhere beachy and warm. But instead we'll be barbecuing it up in our backyard, which at the moment is like a wasteland. The grass is dry and crunchy and the dandelions are calf-high. Someday when the house is finished, we'll start work on the yard. Someday. So, instead I'll yearn for a beachy place.

And what to grill/cook?? Well, here some of my favorites from this summer:

Give chicken, pork tenderloin, ribs, steaks and more a good massage with this dry rub for a quick and flavorful grilled entree!

Of course what barbecue would be complete with a couple of tasty burgers??

How about a couple classic barbecue salads to accompany your grilled fare?

And definitely be taking advantage of some fresh summer corn with:

Need an appetizer idea for a potluck party? Try these skewers. They look fancy, but are incredibly simple!

And this salad is great as a potluck main or side dish.

And of course you can WOW people with this fresh and lemony bread. Almost like a dessert, but since it's just bread, it's guilt-free, right?? Or at least less guilty...
