Today I'm recapping the remainder of our 4 day trip to Bend Oregon and doing the Bend Ale Trail. This post covers the last two days of our trip. You can read about the first two days HERE.
DAY THREE:
8am- Woke up and got ready for the day! We headed into town and Moira was requesting doughnuts for breakfast. We headed in dowtown Bend beacuse we had seen a bakery there the day before and figured they would have something yummy. Unfortunately doughnuts weren't one of the items they had and they didn't allow for dogs. So, we stopped by a coffee shop that was close by and picked up a couple chocolate chip scones and a berry smoothie and sat on their patio with the girls. It wasn't quite doughnuts, but it seemed to work for Moira.
10am- After our quick breakfast, we headed back to Drake Park for a quick stroll and to see some more duckies!
11am- We drove across town to Worthy Brewing for our stop #7 on the Bend Ale Trail.
This place was gorgeous! They have their own garden right there in their parking lot and it of course includes tons of hop plants. Because it was incredibly nice outside, we opted to sit out on their patio. Unfortunately Sadie wasn't allowed with us because she would've had to go through the restaurant to get to the outdoor seating, which is a health code no-no. We signed up for their make-your-own taster tray and grabbed the beer pretzel, which was a cross between a soft pretzel and a hard pretzel. I didn't have a favorite brew here because I truly enjoyed most of them. Well, the beers on the lighter end of the spectrum at least. Most restaurants offer coloring pages and crayons for the kiddos and Worthy was no exception to that. Moira loved it(she usually does), but she really got into her coloring here!
12:30pm- Stop #8 for us was Crux Fermentation Project.
Huge outdoor space, complete with lawn games. Bathrooms with chalkboard walls. Delicious food and of course beer, beer, beer. I really enjoyed their Marzen Bier and Sugar Daddy. For food I had the Spinach Salad with tons of goodies including beer-roasted beets and their IPA Bleu Cheese Dressing. Adam had the Chicken Bacon Sandwich with a Pale Ale Caesar Dressing, grilled panini style. And after spending a lot of time playing, Moira helped both mommy and daddy devour our lunches!
2pm- Tattoo explorations. Totally NOT food or beer related, but this happened. Adam has been wanting to get another tattoo for forever. I know I've never mentioned on the blog, but when I first met him he want to get a new tattoo every year. Well, that has never happened. Never. Due to various reasons. Reason #1 comes down to cost. And we won't go into any more reasons than that. So, I told him he could get something small and gave him a price limit. He took full advantage of that offer and looked up every tattoo shop in town. He finally settled on one: Monolith Tattoo. Which is where we stopped so he could go in and check out the facilities and talk to a specific artist. Next thing I know he comes sauntering out of the tattoo shop. He had made a future appointment and the amount I said he could spend on a tattoo? He used that as a down payment for the rest of the tattoo! Which in all reality, I didn't mind, but I certainly gave him a hard time about it. I'll keep you all updated on Adam's tattoo situation if you like.
Note to self: Do NOT let Adam go into a tattoo shop unsupervised. It's a bit like letting a child roam free in a candy/toy store.
3pm- Head over to Old Mill Brew Werks for stop #9.
We ordered up a side of fries and ONE beer. We should have done a taster tray here since most of their beers we'd never had (another time perhaps), but it was just too dang hot! Really all we wanted were nice, tall, icy waters, but this is called the Bend Ale Trail, NOT a water trail. We did get our waters, but we also tried a glass of the Neurotic Blonde, which was nice and light.
4pm- We went back to the campsite to relax and freshen up a bit. We actually went back down to the river and hopped in. I was so hot and tired that when Adam suggest it, I said no to the idea. But Moira overheard the conversation and she thought it was a great idea, so we went. And I hate to say Adam was right, but it was exactly what we needed!
6pm- After that Adam just wanted to take a nap, but It was my turn to convince him to head back into town to do Bend Brewfest. Lucky for us dogs and minors were allowed into the Brewfest, but only until 8pm. After finding parking, waiting in line, filling out forms for both Sadie and Moira, waiting in line again, finding the popcorn food truck (Moira is addicted to popcorn and we wanted to keep her happy and smiling), we only had 40 minutes to peruse the beers and ciders that were there. We didn't get a chance to try too many, but we got in a few. My favorite was a brew from Logsdon Organic Farmhouse Ales, their Kili Wit.
8:30pm- Back in the car and we head over to Deschutes Public House for dinner (because we can't live off popcorn, although Moira would try if given the chance) and stop #10.
We've had several of Deschutes' beers prior to this trip, so we opted to try ONE specialty brew. Dust Buster American Kolsch. I really enjoyed this, but I'm pretty sure Adam drank most of it ;) For dinner I had the Brewmaster Salad and Adam had the pork tacos. Moira shared my salad with me because after one bite of Adam's spicy pork tacos, she wouldn't touch them.
9:30pm- We headed back to the campsite for some s'mores! Since it was Moira's first time camping and it was officially our last night, we decided to roast up some marshmallows and let her have her first s'more. of course she was in love.
DAY FOUR:
9am- We were up and had the campsite packed and loaded. We were awake pretty early and I was able to get a great pic of Moira still sleeping (I'm sure she'll love me later for it). I haven't been able to do that since she was really little! Anyways, when Moira finally woke up, she was still asking for doughnuts, so we did some searching this time and found The Dough Nut. This place was good and officially filled Moira's craving. We got her doughnut holes, I had a chai doughnut and Adam dove into a cookies 'n' cream doughnut.
11am- Stop #11 was GoodLife Brewing Company.
Had their taster tray and it all was so so so good. My fave was the Sweet As! Pacific Ale. We also had their Bavarian Pretzel served with the best German Stone Ground Mustard and Pale Ale Cheese sauce. Seriously I could've eaten a hundred of these. It's been two months since we had this and I am still thinking about it. Definitely a must try.
12pm- Our 12th and final stop on the Bend Ale Trail: McMenamin's Old St. Francis School and Pub
We have not one, but TWO McMenamin's pubs in our town, so we are well known with their beer. So of course we opted for their famous beer milkshakes and because let's face it, at this point we were pretty beered out. And don't knock it until you try it! I know they sound weird, but they are so yummy! Adam had the Terminator Stout Chocolate Shake and I had the Ruby Ale Raspberry Shake. Plus Moira had some pizza, I had a salad special: Italian Chopped Salad and I don't remember what the heck Adam had to eat! I'm sure it was a burger of some sort. McMenamin's burgers are always delicious.
After lunch, we headed back home. We can't wait to go back to Bend (and we'll be returning soon for Adam's tattoo appointment). We absolutely love love love it there. And Moira has been asking to go camping ever since :)
