Oven Baked Fries

We eat a lot of fries in our house. Usually of the frozen variety. Because they're easy and they go great with burgers, hotdogs, and grilled chicken sandwiches. And we usually have one of those on the menu once a week. Now, I try and change things up a bit by offering different sides other than fries, but we still seem to have fries a couple times a month.

So, I've been on the hunt for a fry recipe that I can make at home in the oven. Without using an entire vat of oil. And folks, we have finally found a winner. The hardest part about making them is cleaning and cutting the potatoes, which really doesn't take all that long. Scratch that. The hardest part about making these is making enough for everyone because our family can't seem to get enough of them.

They do take some time in the oven, but that is just fine for me. I prep the fries, pop them in the oven and have enough time to make burger patties (and get them to my grill master) AND prepare any other burger toppings.

Oven Baked Fries

4-5 medium potatoes (I use russet)
2 Tbsp olive oil
Salt to taste

Preheat oven to 400˚ F. Line 1 (or 2) baking sheets with foil. Wash or peel potatoes. Cut potatoes in half length-wise and slice long ways into 1/8" thick slices (if you prefer thicker fries you can definitely cut them thicker, but they will take longer to cook). Place in a bowl and toss with olive oil. Place in a single layer on a baking sheet. Drizzle each full sheet of fries with any residual oil still in the bowl (approximately 1/2 tsp per sheet). Place in preheated oven and bake for 40-50 minutes. We like our fries to a little bit on the crispier side, so I bake them for 50 minutes. Remove from oven and salt to taste. Serve up with your favorite dipping sauces.
